Job Summary:
The Librarian is responsible for managing all aspects of the school library including acquisition, cataloguing, issuing, and promoting the effective use of books and digital resources. The role also involves fostering reading habits, supporting academic needs, and ensuring the library aligns with CBSE norms and 21st-century learning practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the school library’s daily operations, including issuing and returning books.
- Classify, catalogue, and maintain the inventory of books and other materials.
- Guide students and staff in selecting books and conducting research.
- Promote a culture of reading, inquiry, and independent learning.
- Organize activities such as reading programs, book fairs, and literature weeks.
- Support teachers with curriculum-related resources and reference materials.
- Maintain discipline and order in the library and ensure a quiet, learner-friendly environment.
- Update and manage library management software and digital repositories.
- Recommend procurement of new books, periodicals, and digital tools.
- Keep records of usage statistics, overdue materials, and damaged/lost books.
- Stay updated with the latest trends in educational literature and e-resources.
Eligibility Criteria (as per CBSE norms):
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science (B.Lib.Sc.) from a recognized university.
OR - Graduate with Diploma in Library Science from a recognized institution.
Note: B.Ed. is not mandatory for the post of Librarian as per CBSE norms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science (M.Lib.Sc.) – preferred but not compulsory.
- Proficiency in library automation tools and digital databases (e.g., KOHA, OPAC).
- Knowledge of CBSE Library Guidelines.
Experience:
- Freshers with required qualifications and strong digital skills may also apply.
